Eram na sua grande maioria estudantes de letras. Não podiam servir na indústria, não dominavam as matemáticas nem fazer cálculos de tiro, nada sabiam de Física e Química para fabricar aviões, bombas e artilharia. Ofereceram-se para morrer com a poesia no Mar do Japão. Os últimos heróis do Antigo Japão foram os estudantes de Filosofia, de História e de Literatura. Um belo livro.
